No More Common Core, part II

My last post shared that New York has adopted what is called the, “Next Generation Learning Standards.”  These standards revised the existing Common Core.  Why did New York and 44 other states and D.C. implement the Common Core?  The Common Core was constructed to raise student proficiencies so the United States could better compete in a global market.  Essentially, it is a set of nationwide educational standards.  Under President Obama’s administration, the Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan was a key figure in developing the Common Core.

In my next post, we will discuss the differences between the Common Core Learning Standards vs. the Next Generation Learning Standards.
